Getting My Butt Back Into Gear

I woke up this morning and I jumped on the scales, which I have to say that I don't do very often at the moment.  I use to weigh myself every single day and I would get upset if my weight had increased by 100 grams up from the weight I was the day before.  But over time I have worked out that this type of behaviour is not healthy, so I would only weigh myself once a week.  Since I have been injured, I have been weighing myself once a month!  So anyway, I jumped on the scales and I saw that my weight had gone up 2.5kg, which I wasn't happy about.  I kinda knew that I was putting on weight weight as whilst my upper body looks normal, my stomach and hips are putting on weight.

No, that isn't a baby belly!
I have been justifying eating 'special occasions food' every day because I am injured.  Running and spin classes would normally give me happiness from endorphins, which I am not getting any more, so therefore I can have some chocolate to make me happy.  I also keep justifying to myself that once I am able to exercise properly I will be able to lose all the weight that I have put on.  However, I don't know how long it is going to be until I can exercise properly and who knows how much weight I can put on in that time.

So, I decided today that it was time creating some healthy habits and time to get back on track.  I start 5 weeks of teaching rounds placement on Monday and generally during placement I tend to eat well as I don't have any time to snack during the day and there are no opportunities for me to buy junk food - I always stay away from the school canteen as they can be expensive and they are full of students!

I got out my phone this morning and I tracked all of my food on My Fitness Pal.  I've set my daily calorie limit to 1100 calories and I'm going to stick to it!  I know the calories are low, but I have to compensate due to me not being as active.  When I exercise I will be able to eat extra calories to make up for the exercise.  If you want to follow me on My Fitness Pal my user name is Louwil83.

I also went for a walk on the treadmill this morning for an hour at a speed of 5 kph.  I was really happy as I have increased my speed from 4 kph as I was starting to find it way too slow.  I also went for a 100 metre run to see how my body felt - all was good!  But don't worry, I won't be doing that again!

I went walking for over an hour (I watched Dance Moms and Sex & the City to stop me from getting bored) and then I did about 20 minutes of some light arm weights.  I burnt about 350 calories and I felt good.

I then had a healthy lunch, a nap in the afternoon, and I will soon be having a healthy dinner.

I'll let you know how I go during the week.  Hopefully I have time to blog as last time I was on teaching rounds I was in bed at 8:30pm every night as I was so tired!

Take care!

  1. Great stuff Lou! I know how hard it is to resist cravings and strictly stick to the foods that you know are the right choices. It can send me a little crazy at times but the end goal is always at the forefront of my mind. It only makes us stronger too.

    1. Thanks! I just keep thinking about how hopefully in a few weeks I will be able to be more active and that keeps me going!
